Field study: Better start after calving with Topro Recover cow drink

The time around calving is a critical period for the cow. Because milk production is starting up, the cow becomes short of calcium, which does not help feed intake. The cow does not eat enough, so her energy requirement cannot be fully met. The risk of transition diseases goes up!

A calving cow also loses a lot of fluid. Giving (lukewarm) drinking water after calving is important to get the cow’s digestion, metabolism and appetite going. A full rumen after drinking can also lower the risk of a displaced abomasum. If a cow is slow to get going, adding extra energy or calcium to the drinking water can be useful.

Topro Recover is a cow drink that combines calcium, magnesium, vitamins, trace elements and antioxidants. Calcium has been added to support the cow’s high calcium requirement after calving. Like calcium, magnesium contributes to normal muscle function. The vitamins and minerals have been added to support resistance and rumen function.

In spring 2022, a field study was carried out together with Van Hall Larenstein (University of Applied Sciences) to map the effectiveness of the Recover cow drink. See the results in the downloadable research paper!
