After the transition period, which is often described as 30 days before calving to 30 days after calving, the cow appears to enter calmer waters. There is a grain of truth in this as the risk of diseases is lower after the transition period. But various illnesses and diseases still lurk around the corner that can have an impact on animal health and production. Examples include mastitis, fertility problems and claw problems. But it’s not only these matters that play a role in this phase of lactation. Proper feed, good rumen action and optimal feed efficiency are also important during this period.
